Dear Les
Can I ask if you have been approached to write up a blog item on the whereabouts of the Army Books 358 – the Enlistment Books – for the KOYLI over the Second World War period. I need access to these for the purposes of rearch into 70th Infantry Brigade and the MoD state that their records show the Books as having been sent to the Regimental Museum. The Museum claim to have no knowledge of them.
Any chance we can find out what has happened to them after they were released by MoD?
The research is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Hi John
This message is from Harry Finley, ex ORQMS 2 LI, he came to the 2li in 69 after the DLI were disbanded, message as follows :-
hi Les
The ABs 358 of the DLI up to 1958 are held in the Durham County Record Office. It is possible that those of the KOYLI are held in a similar repository.
Harry Finley
Dear Harry
I am a very frequent user of the DLI Books at DCRO but when I checked with National Archives and MoD they were adamant that the KOYLI Books had gone to the KOYLI Museum – the Museum deny all knowledge, however.
The Rifles Office at Pontefract had said that they would put a message seeking information on the Website, but I’ve not been able yet to discover exactly which Website they meant! Had hoped it was this one.
Cheers

Hi Les,
just come across your site and thought you may like to know that my dad,Ken, passed away on 07/06/02. I’ve looked through the list and, although I was still quite young when my dad demobbed, recognised several of the names.
Cheers
Garry Camplin
Hi Garry
Making enquiries for you, this is one message in response :-
Ken was a member of 5Pl B Company when I joined the Battalion in Malaya in 1963,he was with 5Pl for the complete Borneo tour starting December 1963. Malcolm Moore and Roy Alder would have known him well. Please pass on my sincere condolences.

Hi
I am about to retire from the British Army after serving 23 years and I am looking at getting my medals mounted. I have tracked down my Dads service details (he passed away in 2006) they are: 23055288 Pte LA Harris – KOYLI
I have 3 medals, consisting of his National Service, Cyprus and Kenya.
I do not know the dates of his service and was hoping someone can help me with this?
Many thanks
SSgt C Gilchrist
hi Claire
I have checked with a KOYLI veteran who was in the regiment more or less the same time as your dad, but he explained to me that drafts went out to Kenya, Cyprus at different times, so there is no way he can confirm your dads time out their, have you tried, this link ?

My friend says he cannot remember your father, sorry

Hi Pete, I never got a message from you about my Dad, so I don’t know what site you are talking about? I know about the veterans website too. Both of my parents are now lost to me and as I am also a serving member of the Forces I was hoping to find some of my Dads old serving buddies on this site, just to fill in the blanks really, so I can add the information to his medals.
