THE LIGHT INFANTRY AND RIFLES REUNION SHREWSBURY 15 – 16 JUNE 2012 –
GENERAL INFORMATION

Reference:

A. RC 27/10/11 dated 30 Aug 2011. (Wash Up Points) (NOTAL)

INTRODUCTION

1. The aim of this letter is to update members on the current plans for the 2012 reunion.

CURRENT PLANNING

2. The Rifles Band and Bugles are not available due to supporting a Royal visit in Germany. As a result there will be no Sounding Retreat on Friday 15 Jun. We have secured the services of the Waterloo Band and Bugles for the Association Day on Sat 16 Jun. The full cost of the Band and Bugles now have to be met by the Reunion fund so please give maximum support the Grand Draw to support this and other extra costs. The LI bar will be open 1800hrs until 0100hrs on Fri 15 Jun.

3. The Saturday will be the same format as last year, hopefully with some display vehicles etc. The Bligny Service will take place in the morning and will now be at E Coy (RIFLES) Coy Drill Hall Copthorne Barracks. Maj Richard Jones (ex KSLI/3LI) has kindly agreed to manage the Association Parade and details will be published, as usual, in the Calling Letter.

4. Nesscliff Camp has been secured for use by members on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 Jun 12 and some 150 places will be available. Once again there is no military manpower available but Maj Paul Evanson (ex 2LI) and his staff have kindly agreed to once more manage the workload. The costs, like all aspect of life have gone up considerably and details will be published in the Newsletter and the Calling in letter.

MANPOWER

5. The lack of MoD funds means that all payments for overtime for the barracks and the security staff have ceased and these costs will now have to be covered from reunion funds. A request has been made for 5 regular soldiers to act as the workforce but the outcome will not be known for some time yet.

FUNDING/GRAND DRAW

6. There has been a massive explosion in charges by the MoD and we now have to pay for every facility we use in the barracks and this could finish up in the range of several thousands of pounds. Doc Halliday (ex KSLI/3LI) is back in the draw management chair so please give him maximum support.

7. We have managed to secure the services of a local company to manage the bar and food services. It is the same company as last year but working directly to the Reunion Coordinator rather than through the Barracks Contractor.
